Pre/Post Tan Care

Pre-Tan Preparation:

  • For best results, exfoliate your skin and shave before your appointment using non oil-based products (avoid Dove soap, oil and salt scrub, shea butter shave cream, etc).
This promotes an even coverage and lengthens the duration of your tan by removing any dead skin cells that would otherwise flake off.

  • Make sure any beauty treatments (waxing, manicures, pedicures, massages, etc.) are completed the day before your tan.  These treatments involve exfoliating or hair removal that may cause drastic fading of your tan.  It helps to remove all makeup, lotion, and deodorant as these items work as barriers to the spray.

  • We do have exfoliating wipes on-hand in case you are coming straight from work, etc. and are not able to remove these prior to your appointment.

  • Finally, wear dark, loose-fitting clothing.  While the bronzer will wash out of most clothing, it may stain some delicate fabrics such as nylon, lycra, and silk.

  • It’s better to err on the side of caution as The Bronze Bar is not responsible for any clothing damages that may occur.

Maintaining Your Bronze:

  • Most importantly- Wait at least 8 hours before getting skin wet. (4 hours for rapid)
This includes: showering, swimming, working out, being out in the rain, beauty treatments, etc.  Any activities that could wash or rub the spray off the skin (friction) can cause an uneven or splotchy tan.

  • The longer the bronzing formula reacts with the skin, the better and darker it will develop. Once the tan is fully developed, it is completely safe to resume normal activities.

  • The first time you shower after your tan, it is perfectly normal to see the cosmetic bronzer come off in the water.  Don’t worry, your tan isn’t washing off- it’s only the cosmetic, or “instant,” portion of the tan.

  • Underneath the cosmetic portion, your skin has developed the nice bronze color that will last for 7-10 days. For best results, use a mild soap and lotion that do not contain alpha hydroxy acid, oils or exfoliants.  These ingredients speed up cell turnover, which reduces the life of your tan.

  • Avoid using washcloths or loofahs when you wash- hand wash and rinse only.  Make sure to moisturize liberally after showering. The healthier your skin is, the longer your color will last.
